  1. If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything" -Mark Twain these words that Mark Twain said are true because if you tell the truth you don't have to remember the lie you told. You always end up getting caught in a lie any ways because if you make up lie after lie after lie it gets hard to remember all the lies you told and that's how you get caught so its easier to tell the truth and be done with the situation. For example everyone lies but its hard to and people think its easy but it isn't so just tell the truth.

  2. "If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything" -Mark Twain i think that this quote can mean a lot of stuff. why would you have to worry about anything if your telling the truth. When i lie i keep thinking to myself am i going to get in trouble, but if i dont lie i don't have to have stress on my mind. If something bad happened and you don't tell the truth you may not like the outcome of any thing. If you do something bad and tell the truth then you don't have to worry about it, as long as you face the consequences of your actions you will be okay. Lieng will do nothing else but get you in more trouble. If two people say the truth and you lie i think that the principal or whoever is getting you in trouble will believe them them instead of you so just tell the truth. When i was younger and i was getting in trouble i kept lying and the teacher kept saying i was lying. It really wasn't helping me but i kept lying. if i just told the truth i probably wouldn't get in as trouble as i did. Im not going to lie one time i lied to the office and i didn't get in trouble. I lied so good that when i was called down i lied and the other person that i didn't like got in trouble. Even with me saying this you shouldn’t lie its not a good habit to have. Later on in life after school lying and cheating won’t get you anywhere. now it might sometimes work but try to get out of the habit. I know that everyone lies i don't know someone who hasn't lied at all.

    1. Ryan, I agree on how you described this quote. I like when you said that if you keep lying, you would remember everything and get in trouble. That means if you tell the truth, and nothing but the truth, you would never have to remember that situation and get in trouble. To conclude, I completely agree on what you were trying to say.

    2. I agree with what you said ryan. Lying does work. But its still a bad habit moving forward in life. This is a good way to put it.

  3. “If you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember anything.” Those are words from A famous author, Mark Twain. In my own words, this quote means that If you always tell the truth, and nothing but the dog on truth, you don’t have to make up a backstory on why it’s true. I know when someone is in a real tight situation, the person tries to lie out of it. I know it is an instinct of many, but the truth is the key of getting out of that tight situation. For example, you just got in trouble by your teacher. You both go down to the Principal's Office. Your teacher says to the Principal that you ripped a book in half. There are two options to this situation. You can tell the truth and say that you did rip the book and pay the fine, OR, you can lie and say that someone/something got a hold of your book and ripped it. What would you choose? In my standpoint, I would tell the truth that I did rip the book. Both the Teacher and the Principal would agree to my story and say that I need to pay the fine for that book. I feel both terrible and relieved because I ripped the book, but, I did tell the truth. So, to conclude, this quote means that if you always tell the truth, and nothing but the truth, you don’t have to worry about thinking of an excuse, or a lie, to get out of a tight situation.
In a piece of literature ,that I am reading in class, follows up to this quote. In To Kill a Mockingbird, I had read the chapters when Tom Robinson was accused of assaulting Mayella Ewell. Tom told the jury, and Atticus, his side of the story. He said that he didn’t do anything to harm her, but, she did get on top of Tom and kissed him. In that stage, he felt awkward and tried to leave. That’s all. But, he got accused of assaulting Mayella by Mr. Ewell. That is how this quote relates to the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird

    1. I really like the way you told the quotes meaning Vinny! It was a clear understanding and made sense. I also like how you related the quote to TKAM and an example of how this quote can relate to modern day life. All in all, I think you did a wonderful job!

    2. Viinny, I really like you're passage! After reading it I realized that you are really good at fully explaining what the quote means to you and relating it to your own life, or books and such! My favorite part in the passage was when you said If you always tell the truth, and nothing but the dog on truth, you don’t have to make up a backstory on why it’s true. I honestly don't know why but I really like this part in the passage! You're really good at writing keep up the good work!

  4. Mark Twain once said, "if you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything". I think this quote means, in life you won't have to worry about anything if you just tell the truth when you should. Personally, I think there are many times that you might have to to make things right. However, for the times that you do tell the truth, they usually always make your life easier in the end. For example, if you secretly got beaten at home almost every day, and someone asks you if you do, and you tell that person yes, it would help a lot. Sometimes letting the truth out, even though you don't want to, can make you feel so much better. Personally, this quote means a lot to me. In my life I have lied, a lot. Most people out there have, at least a few times. Usually if you lie to your parents, for example, it's a good thing, because most parent would get upset with you if you told the truth about something that you did that was wrong. However, if you tell the truth to them, they aren't as mad if you would have lied, because they know that you were honest and learned from whatever you did. Another good example would be from "To Kill A Mockingbird" when in the courthouse, Mayella is very scared and upset, because of her father. He was a very violent person and beat his daughter when he didn't like what she did. She didn't know if she should have told the truth or not to Atticus about her father beating her, because she was scared to. If Mayella was to tell the truth, she would have felt so much better inside. Along with this example, it shows that this is a very good quote to go by, to not always lie, because of what such better things could happen if you tell the truth.

  5. To me, the quote, "If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything", by Mark Twain means that if you tell the truth, there will be no need to remember what never happened. A way to tell if someone is lying is how long they take to create a story behind their lies, or to see how they react to certain questions. For example, In TKAM, Mayella pauses when asked a question. We all know that she was lying, but if we didn’t, that would’ve been a hint that she was. All in all, your life would be easier if you just tell the truth, so you don’t put yourself in a spot where you have to think of something fake. In other words, there would be nothing to worry about if you did one simple task: tell the truth. This quote relates to TKAM in another way as well. While Tom Robinson was on the stand, he spoke clearly, and never paused, which could mean he had thought of a story beforehand, or was telling the truth. But even if he did have a well-planned story, he would still have some trouble remembering all of the details, which are very important in a case such as this one. This quote does not only relate to TKAM, but me and many others as well. I lie a lot, and I’m not going to lie about it. Here is a scenario that is completely made up, but relates to this quote. Say you were convicted of theft. You made up a fake story of where you were that night that went sort of like this, “I was out shopping with my friends”. They could ask many questions such as what are your friend’s names, what did you buy, what stores did you visit, etc. Then, if you didn’t think of that, it would be easy to tell if you are lying or not.

  6. “If you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember anything.” To me, this wise, incredible quote by Mark Twain means that telling the truth relates to fact. If you tell a lie then you have to remember it as you may be asked about it at some future time and be found out. Because some people tell so many lies that they have to keep track of them and remember what lies they’ve told so they don’t accidentally contradict themselves and get caught in a lie. Telling the truth usually always make your life easier in the end, I know there are and is going to be certain points in your life that you are going to need to lie, weather it is to get you out of something or to protect someone you care about or anything, but you will have to remember that exact lie forever and live with yourself. I personally think it’s easier to just tell the truth to whoever you even think about lying too. Lying will do nothing else but get you in trouble. For an example in To Kill a Mockingbird with the whole Tom Robinson case it’s just a big huge lie. While Mayella Edwell is getting questioned by Atticus Finch she is making a bunch of lies up and you can tell by her face that she is just so upset by this whole situation. Also you can tell she is lying because she will change the story up each time she reasked a question, because she forgets what she had said the time before that and the time before that. Also, once the case is over she will always have to live with the fact that, she not telling the truth has killed a nice man who has done many things for her. Honesty I think that would be one of the hardest things ever. That is what I think this quote means and how I can relate it to something.

    1. Your right Martha I totally agree with you. If you get asked about it you will probably remember it but in the future the truth will always come out.

  7. Mark Twain once said, "If you don't lie you dont have to remember anything." To me this quote means that if you just tell the truth you don't have to worry about anything. You don't have to worry about sticking with the same story or changing a part of your lie. You can just tell the truth every time and the story will never change. You also don't have to worry about the guilt of lying on your mind either. Another thing about telling the truth is that you get out of trouble usually or get a lesser punishment. Even if you still get in a little bit of trouble or leave someone disappointed in you with the truth, when the lie fails and they find out the truth for themselves you'll be in ten times as much trouble. The person or people you lied to will also have drastically less trust in you. Lying does nothing positive for you in the long run. Why get out of some minor chastisement right now if you just get a major punishment with no more trust later.
An example of this in my life is all the times I've gotten in trouble in middle school. Every time i got called down to the office in middle school i talked my way out of the punishment that was going to be given originally. I didn't always lie but a few times i took a out of school suspension and talked it down to in school suspension or two hour detentions even when i deserved a bigger punishment. It was hard to always remember my original story. So eventually i got caught in the lie when the cameras in the hallway showed a different story then the one i told. After that the principals didn't really believe anything i said and never gave me the shadow of the doubt. Lying was good while it lasted but now i see that its dumb and all it does is get you in trouble. I wouldn't just outright lie anymore but then it seemed smart because when you're younger and less mature you never think about the future, near or distant.

  8. "If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything" -Mark Twain this quote applies to me a lot. As a little kid around seven I used to lie to get out of trouble like every other kid my age did at the time. I found myself having to make up more lies to cover for my original lie. After a while I would end up getting caught because of that and how my story didn’t match up. Well long story short if I just told the truth in the first place I would have got in less trouble and wouldn’t have to worry about making up lies to cover for myself. That’s what mark was trying to say in that quote that you don’t have to remember a new lie if you just tell the truth in the first place. Just like in “to kill a mocking bird” how she has to keep making up lies on how tom raped her but eventually Atticus catches her and exposed how tom was innocent. She had to keep making up the way she was telling the story she slipped up and it was actually her that came on to him and then her dad walked in. so they had to point the blame on someone. So they said tom Robinson raped her and they lied and lied just so he would go to jail. The moral of this is don’t lie and you won’t have to keep lying to save yourself from getting caught in the original one. Plus if you’re honest with people they usually won’t give you a harsh punishment.

  9. "If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything" These words where spoken by Mark Twain. What I think that this quote means is that if you tell the truth about something you did or didn't do then it doesn't have to ponder you for the rest of your life. This quote can be related to our society because when someone does something bad and lies about it they will always remember what they did. They will never forget the time they snuck out or did something they knew that they weren't supposed to do but did it anyway. If they told the truth from the start then whatever they did wouldn't ponder that person anymore cause they knew that they told the truth and not making it hard on their life for lying about something they did or didn't do. Fro an example in the book How To Kill A MockingBird if Miss. Mayella told the truth to the judges and everyone in he court room that her father beat her, Mr. Robison wouldn't be getting pressed charges for doing something he never did to her. Instead of telling the truth she lied to everyone to keep her father safe from getting in trouble, but since she is lying she is getting a poor man in trouble for doing something he never did to her and would never do to anyone! That's how the quote "If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything" by Mark Twain relates to the book, their are many other ways it can relate to the book but to me this was the most important example in the book. Everyone should always tell the truth with something if they did it or didn't do it, it's the easier way out without a lot of conquences.
