"Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.” – Albert Einstein What do you think this quote means? What does it mean to you personally? Give an example from your own life when you have seen yourself or someone else experience this.

  1. Albert Einstein once said " Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree it'll spend its whole life believing its stupid." What I think this means is that everyone has their own special ability. So what he is saying is a fish can not climb a tree but it can swim. On the other hand a monkey can not swim but it can climb a tree. See not everyone can do everything but they all have a talent that they can do a little better than others. For example, i'm not good at ice skating where as someone else could be great, But I am a good swimmer which might be where someone else would lack the talent. So dont judge somebody because they can't do something you can because good chance they can do something you can't.

  2. Albert Einstein once said “Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by it’s ability to climb a tree it’ll spend its whole life believing it is stupid.” I think this quote means that you shouldn’t put anyone down. If you tell a person they can’t do something they think they can’t and give up. If you put your mind to it you could do anything. When you judge someone they mostly end up on top because you are waiting for them to fail but instead you crash and burn and they succeed. We all are smart in some way some may be better than others but there is no question that someone is stupid. To me i think this quote means that i will reach success. Yes there will be many falls on my way but i will make it.The part of falling is people telling me to stop because i can not do it. But anything is possible and i am determined to reach to success. I would hate to live believe i am stupid but i am not and i will shine in some way. We all have the ability to win we just have to try and try again until we find something you love. I would not want to be doing something i hate. No one would like that, we all must try our hardest to not let people get to us. In my own experience i have been put down many times but i keep tryinbg and don’t give up. My friend Nick is an inspirational person because he has faced so many challenges and he still manages to act like a normal teenager. People told him that he couldnt wrestle because he had no legs and only one arm. But Nick went out on that mat and pinned a kid and showed everyone that nothing is impossible.

  3. Albert Einstein once said: "Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it'll spend the rest of its life believing that it is stupid." What I think this quote means is that if you do not give a smart person the chance to show how smart they are and put them down by telling them they are not smart, then they will always believe that they are stupid and they will never show how smart they really are. Let me give an example, let us say that there is a bully in class it is a a track class and everybody in there are around the same intellectual level, but there is always one kid who is the smartest and the bully always puts him/her down by telling them to be quiet or just by hurting them. That smart kid will now never want to be smart anymore so they will believe they will have to be stupid in order to "survive" that school year and the following ones to come. What this means to me personally is that smart kids, such as myself, don't have to believe that they are stupid just because you judge them and tell them they are stupid. An example of this from my life is when I was in the 5th grade. It was between the middle and ending of the first marking period, we were in math class in a B-track class but I was smarter than B-track. The only reason why I was in that class was because of two points on my finals for math. I was the best in class I had the best grades and a couple of kids thought that I was being a bit cocky and that being smart was uncool. They beat me up a bit, insulted me and so, I knocked it off with the smart stuff and thought that I would have to stay with terrible grades in order to avoid the meaner kids. My grades suffered and so did I with being put into low classes but when I got into the 7th grade I was back into the smarter kid classes and I had no more worries although I still think sometimes that it would be best for me to seem dumb so that I avoid the bullies.

    2. I agree with Alex when he says that a bully in an A Track class will put the smartest kid down, so they will act stupid on purpose. People need to realize that if you put someone down, you can effect their whole life. If you make someone believe their stupid, that's bad. Everyone is smart, no matter what everyone says. I think this is a well written response.

  4. "Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.” – Albert Einstein. I think Albert Einstein means is that If you try something that is impossible you won’t achieve anything. Since a fish can climb a tree it is impossible so that is what he is trying to say. This quote can relate to people’s life in many ways. One way is if someone is working on a new gadget that is supposed to be amazing, like a time machine, they will spend their whole life trying to build one but not achieve anything because it is impossible. If you were to relate it to our daily life, then heres another example. Another is when someone is not even doing work on their test they won't get a good grade if they don’t try and they don’t know anything it would be impossible. In my life I once was playing baseball and i missed all of the practices and i went to one of the games and i couldn’t hit nor catch and i was terrible! That is what I learned and noticed that Albert Einstein really makes a point. I think that this quote can help us guide us through times like a career in the future or designing a product. You have to think whether or not it is impossible or not. Otherwise, you won’t achieve anything! So if you're the fish that is trying to climb a tree, you won’t achieve anything and that it is stupid. As you can see, Einstein’s quote can really change how we look at things. Hopefully, it can guide you through your life and don’t be that fish! It is not possible!

    1. I absolutely loved kyle’s response. He makes much sense of it and puts detail into his explanation. I especially like his own personal experiences with this quote. He explains how he eventually succeeded in becoming good at baseball. He didn’t give up on himself. He kept pushing and pushing. He put great effort into that, and thats what this quote means.

  5. Albert Einstein had once said, "Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.” I believe that this quote means that just because you can not do one thing or your not good at it doesn't mean you are dumb. This quote can also mean, that everyone has their own special ability of doing something. So just because someone is not good at something that you are, does not mean there incapable of doing it. It means that there probably is something that they are actually good at but you are not. Therefore, I believe everyone is different and is good at something else that others may not be good at. Another analogy is you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. This quote relates to me by me and my best friend, gabby. Gabby and I are 2 very different people yet again we have a lot of similarities but we also live two whole different life styles. She is good at a lot of things I'm not and I'm good at a lot of things she is not. An example I'm good at vollyball, softball, and basketball but she's good at swimming, acrobatics, and singing. I am good at those three things but she is not as much and same to the things she is good ya and I'm not so good at. But we don't put each other down, we are patient with each other. Which is like the quote because I don't judge her ability to do the things I'm good at and she does not do the same to me. That is why are friendship works even though we are different. This year will be our 12th year of being best friends.

  6. Albert Einstein once said, “Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it’s stupid.” To me i think this quote means, to not put people in a state of mind when they’re self conscious. Instead of judging the fish climbing the tree, how about in courage them? Why should it matter if they look stupid. When hateful or kind things are said, it influences that person. For example, if a girl says to another girl, your shirt look awful. The girl that got told this is most likely to never wear this shirt again. I can relate to this quote because, i usually wear my hair up in a ponytail or bun. I dont like to but, the kind of hair i have is hard to maintain. So the easiest thing for me to do is a bun or ponytail. When i wear my hair down out of the blue, people comment me by saying, “wow Elena your hair looks nice down, you should have it like this more often, it looks better.’ When people say this to me i usually think that they're right and i should do my hair like this if everyone thinks it better. This is where the second part of the quote comes into play. Albert Einstein once said, “Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend it’s whole life believing that it’s stupid.” I think this quote means, to not make people self conscious of themselves.

    1. I think Elena really explained the quote well! I think what she is saying by encouraging them to climb the tree. I also like how she shows examples about the girls tell each other that their hair is horrible. Overall,I think albert enisten is trying to tell people to encourage others. I think this was an excellent answer to the quote!

  7. "Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.” – Albert Einstein. I think that this quote means everybody is a genius in their own way. But, if you judge a fish on monkey abilities like climbing a tree their going to spend the rest of their life thinking their really dumb because they can't climb that tree. I think this means to me personally that if I'm smart at math people expect me to be great at science and gym too even though the only things they have thing common is that they are both subjects in school. This reminds me of something that happened to my friend ... shes really street smart but, everybody says shes should be school smart as well.

  8. Albert Einstein once said that"Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.”. An incredible quote by a very smart man. Albert Einstein was incredibly smart but no one knew his potential. They actually thought he was mentally handicapped when he was littler. Everyone around Albert did not see his massive potential, but, Albert saw potential in himself and didn’t give up on himself. Others might have but he didn’t. So what I think this quote means is that everyone in their own way is extremely amazing at something. It doesn't have to be all about being smart. I take this quote as being able to do something if you believe what you say and think, not what others say and think. If you take a bad influence of others to believe you aren’t at your full potential, you yourself believe you can not achieve your goals. So, in order to achieve them, I think he is saying you have to block out other people’s bad vibes. For example, Mark Zuckerberg, the inventor of facebook, is now a billionaire. Almost everyone wants to live his easy life. But, it wasn’t so easy for him starting off. He wasn’t too smart as a high school student and everyone thought he would fail in life, he even dropped out of college. But, after some work, he created facebook, which has now gotten so popular. Thanks to believing in himself and not listening to bad influence, Mark Zuckerberg is now a billionaire. It just goes to show you that if you listen to yourself and push away all the negative comments about what you think you can, and will do, you can accomplish great things.

    1. I really like Dieths response to this question. He apply's the quote from Albert Einstein to Albert Einstein. He talks of how he was thought to be mentally handicapped at a younger age. He also talks about Mark Zuckerburg and how everyone thought he'd fail in life. But instead he succeeded. This is why I like Dieths quote.

  9. Albert Einstein once said,”Everybody is a genius, but, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree it will spend its whole life believing its stupid.”This quote is a very meaningful quote and i think i use this quote everyday.I believe that Albert Einstein is a very smart person and he can be a very nice person.I think this quote means that if you judge someone it stays with them because theyconstantly remember the words you say.If you encourage someone to do something they will be better at it.This quote can relate to my life the most because i get judged everyday by everyone. My brother makes fun have me when i do something the wrong way.If we play football or soccer he makes fun have me cause i can't kick or catch. At first i don't mind but when he continues to make fun have everything i say and do it upsets me.So if he encouraged me to actually kick and catch right i wouldnt get made fun of. Then in school if i get something wrong no one laughs in class but they laugh at me after. That is why i am so quiet because i am afraid f getting made fun have for so many things and i just want everyone to stop making fun have me.So even when i treat everyone with respect no matter who it is i still get made fun of.Other than just me it happens to everyone everywhere so i try to look on the bright side have things. My one friend gets laughed at for everything and it just sticks in their and my mind.Everything that people say sticks with us the rest of our lives. She finally stood up for herself and is now happy. All in all i think that Albert Einsteins quote is a well said quote that i use everyday.

  10. Albert Einstein once said: "Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it'll spend the rest of its life believing that it is stupid." Also I think this quote means if you are judged by doing something your not good at you will show your not good and quite simply youll look really stupid. I really do like this quote because it makes a lot of sense. Also this quote affects many people in todays day of age because a lot of people are judged by what and how they can do things and if your judged by something you cant do itll make you look like you cant do anything. As example if someone were to judge me on sports and make me play soccer id look like I couldn't play any sports. All in all albert nailed this quote and it is spot on

  11. "Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.” – Albert Einstein. To me this quote means not to judge people. I think it means that different people are good at different things so don’t judge someone based on a single aspect of their life. For example a fish is a great swimmer. The best in the world at it. But on land it doesn't do much of anything well. Someone may be amazing at mathematics but terrible at history. Does that make them stupid. of course not. Now imagine when that person fails in history you tell them they’re stupid. That mixed with the failure makes them truly believe that. That person Isn't dumb though. They just don’t excel in one particular area.To me personally it means that putting someone down can make them believe that putdown. When they believe they begin to doubt themselves. Although you could have had a brilliant mathematician you’ve just lost him to judgment and hatred. An example of this that I have seen in my life has happened to an older friend of mine. He was good at history but terrible at mathematics everyone else who thought the class was easy called him dumb and stupid. Slowly but surely his history grade began to plummet. By the end of the year he was in serious danger of failing for the whole year. Then he moved away. My point is that the only reason he began to fail in the first place was due to the harassment of his fellow classmates. This is what I believe Albert Einstein meant when he said "Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

  12. Albert Einstein once said "Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it'll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid." What I think that this quote means is that you should not let anyone down because of their abilities to do better at something. Also if you do this and let them down then they will believe that they are stupid and do not have that kind of ability at all. What I also think that it means is that you should always think that everyone is a smart person and could do good in things. Otherwise if you do not then it will cause them to feel stupid. What I personally think about this quote though is that a fish can swim but it can not climb a tree so it might seem that it is a little bit stupid inside of that tiny head of theirs. An example from my life is kind of like me climbing a tree that is really easy for others to climb sometimes so they call me a little dumb or stupid so for the rest of the day sometimes if I really did not like on what they said I think that I am really stupid and that they really were correct on what they had said to me that day. This is what I think that this quote means said by a very smart man Albert Einstein.

  13. "Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.” This is a great quote by Albert Einstein. I think that this quote means if you expect someone to do something they aren’t meant to do, they will feel bad about themselves. Like if you make someone play certain sport that they don’t know how to play, they will feel bad about themselves because they can’t play it. You can’t judge someone on something they can’t or don’t know how to do. Personally, I feel that if you make someone do something they don’t know how to do, they are going to feel dumb or out of place. For example, if you make a blind person read a 500 page book, they are going to feel bad about themselves because they can’t read it. I can relate this quote to something I’ve seen someone else experience and I, myself, have experienced. In gym, they make us run for 16 minutes without stopping. If you stop, you will get a lower grade. Some people can’t run that much. I know I can’t run for 16 minutes without stopping. Why make us do it when they know we physically can’t. I feel bad about myself when I get a lower grade because I can’t run for 16 minutes straight. It’s completely ridiculous. I have to walk know in gym because of a medical note. I feel bad about myself when people come over to me, supposedly my friends, and say “Why aren’t you running?” I tell them I’m not allowed to. They say “No, you’re allowed to, you just choose not to.” I feel bad about myself then. I can’t run because of my ankle, don’t judge me on that. I feel everyone should listen to this quote.

  14. “Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that its stupid.” - Albert Einstein. This quote is very powerful, it means a lot. It mainly means that you can not judge somebody on the way they do something if they normally dont do it. Not everyone is amazing at everything. Each person has there own special talent that they may not have even discovered yet. Certain people are meant to do certain things. A good example would be if a football player made fun of a baseball player because he wasnt good at football or running or any of that. Also, not everyone is able to do some things like if someone is not in shape they wont be able to do that well in sports, thats why they would persue themselves into a different career path. Another example would be if you were to make fun of someone who is very smart in one subject but stupid in another, that person will feel like they arnt really that smart when they really are. People make fun of other people for not being good at something that they themselves are all the time but it is really pointless because the other person is most likely really good at something that the other isnt. People really need to understand that everyone has a special talent of there own and are a very helpful addition to the world just like everyone else, we all play a role in the world but we each have a different one.
