"Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.” – Albert Einstein What do you think this quote means? What does it mean to you personally? Give an example from your own life when you have seen yourself or someone else experience this.
"Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.” This quote by Albert Einstein is probably my most favorite quote so far this year. To me, this only means one thing. A fish obviously cannot climb a tree. It just can’t. Just like that fish, some people are incapable of doing somethings. Maybe you’re really not great at something like math, and its just not your thing, which is okay. A lot of people aren’t. But if your teacher or classmates judge you all the time for doing bad on a test or getting the wrong answer in class, you’re going to start to believe it. Even if they don’t directly say you’re dumb for getting it wrong, it still gets to you. Sooner or later you’ll start to believe that you can’t do anything right. But everyone is great at something. That’s where “Everybody is a genius,” comes in. You could be perfect in english and horrible in math or vise versa. You’ll still be a genius in that class. It’s not fair for people to judge others incapabilities of doing something, because they could be achieving something greater in another activity. If you judge someone constantly for something they can’t do right, they’ll start believing they can’t do anything.
ReplyDeleteI can actually relate to this quote a lot, and that’s why its my favorite. Some people do actually make me feel like im stupid sometimes. I don’t act stupid. I’m not that kind of person, and i don’t care if anyone thinks i am, because i know how i act. I know some people act like they’re dumb to get attention. But when i ask questions, I’m asking them because i obviously dont understand. And so do many other people. It’s not fair when I ask a question and everyone else is like, “Oh my gosh are you serious?” Yeah obviously I’m serious! I am good in some subjects, but not all of them are equally the same. It’s not fair for you to judge me or someone else because you’re “better” in math than i am or someone else is, because we could be better than you in a different subject. Just because someone asks questions that you already know, doesn’t mean they’re stupid at all. Because I know people who constantly bring themselves down all the time because they think they’re so stupid in a subject because they don’t know as much as someone else does. If someone doesn’t understand something, leave them alone and let them get help. There is absolutely no need for your stupid comments about how that person is “stupid.”
I had a lot to say about this quote because i think it is relatable to a lot of people. I’m sure everyone has felt this way at some point, which is why i love it a lot.
I agree with Collett and I can relate a lot to her on this quote. No one should judge others on their in capabilities because it's not their fault their not good at that particular subject. I like the way she related it to her life and how she doesn't get things and people judge her. I know where she's coming from and you know what I completely understand. She did a nice job responding to this blog.
DeleteI like the way you explained this quote! This too is my favorite quote because we all can relate to this quote, I'm positive about that. Its also kind of a powerful quote since it leads to the reason why some of us have insecurities and low self'-esteem when we are called stupid for something we're not good at. I really like how you said about the fish(from the quote) climbing up a tree is impossible to be good at just like for all of us, there are things that are impossible for us to be good at. I agree with what you have said about this quote.
DeleteI agree with Collett. I liked the way she explained herself and the examples she used. It is not fair to judge other people that are not as good as you are at something. She is right, if you keep judging people, they are really going to think they are "stupid".
DeleteI also agree with you! I think you explained this quote very well! I thought your examples were good and explained well. I liked when you said some people just can't do certain things because it's true. No one is good at everything. So overall I think you did a good job explaining the quote!
DeleteI strongly agree with what Collett says here. If it's literally impossible to do something, you shouldn't be made fun of because of it. That's just like me laughing at someone because they can't fly. I also like the way she related this to her life.
DeleteOut of all the blogs, I like yours the most. You showed me an even other way to look at it. Just because someone isn't as good as you at something, it doesn't mean that person should get made fun of. That person should be even more encouraged and challenged to do better. Way to go!!
DeleteI agree with Collett. She says that obviously everyone cannot be good at everything so everyone has something they cant do. Just like a fish cant climb a tree a monkey cant swim very well. All people are good at something. You just have to figure out what you are good at.
DeleteWhat this quote means to me is that everyone is smart but when you make fun of someone it will make them feel stupid because it will make them think it. People are easily influenced this makes them think that everyone finds them dumb. In this world wide community people are extremely sensiteve and want everyone to like them. When the first person says that they dont like that person they brake down and get extremely mad because they want everyone to like them. A lot of people these days goes off popularity and if they arent popular they are judged by a lot of peoplr including themselves. Then they try to change who they are and try to make freinds in all of the wrong ways. People will do anything to make friends and a lot of people take advantage of this and make a fool of themselves. They get used without even evening releazing what happened. They take their money and food and use them because they think they are their true friends but they are only neing taling advantge of.
ReplyDelete"Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.” This was a quote by Albert Einstein. To me this quote means that if you tell someone they can’t do something it will discourage them and they won’t want to follow their dreams. If you tell them they can do anything though, they will go and chase their dreams and believe they can do anything. Even though that fish might not be able to climb the tree, don’t tell it it can’t, because even if it fails at least it knew it tried and that's all that matters. Maybe one day that little fish will find a way to succeed. So what I really think this quote is saying is never tell someone they can’t do something.
ReplyDeleteThis quote can also relate to my life. In first grade I started playing REC basketball. I was always kind of short for my age so some people doubted me and didn't think i would be that great. But since it was my choice I wanted to try it. When I started, like everyone else i wasn't that good. But through the next couple years i got pretty good. I would always be the ball handler and i usually made most of the baskets for our team. Every game i couldn't wait to play because everyone never expected me to be as good as i was. Once middle school came around i tried out for basketball in 7th grade. When trouts started i was pretty nervous because almost everyone trying out played on the travel team also. Also tryouts were never really my strong point. After the tryouts were over I found out i didn't make it. I was pretty disappointed because i knew the coach knew i wasn't tall so I didn't stand out as a basketball player. The next year I didn't even try out because I knew the same thing would probably happen. So like the fish, me not making the team influenced my choice to stop playing basketball because to me they were saying I couldn't do it. I do still enjoy just playing for fun at home with friends and family though. Also from me quitting basketball I have recently gotten into tennis and lacrosse, so maybe it was for a reason i didn't make the team.
Ashley explained this quote very well! She made me really understand what the quote means. She also gave great examples to support her reasons and her life experiences. Good Job Ashley!
DeleteAlbert Einstein once said "Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.” What I think this quote means is that everyone has the potential to be smart and everyone really is smart but if you constantly tell that person that they can’t do it or they aren’t smart, it will stick with them for the rest of their life and they’ll believe that they really are stupid. So for the people that say to other people that their “stupid” or they won’t go anywhere in life, you’re wrong. The person you kept bullying and called stupid is actually really smart. Everyone has the potential to be smart. But the people who constantly put in their mind that their stupid makes them believe themselves that their stupid. Which isn’t true at all. Sad to say but it does happen in this world.
ReplyDeleteThis quote relates to I think everyone in this world. Many people are called stupid when all of them have the potential to be smart. For example, me. I used to get called stupid and many other words. Yeah I believed it but my grades in school say otherwise. I get really good grades and that shows that I am smart. And I do have the potential to be smart and just getting good grades in school shows it. So many people say I was stupid and I wouldn’t pass high school but hey, look at where I am and look at my grades. I am smart. And I now believe that I am smart and I have the potential to be smart. And I believe that everyone has the ability to be smart and to make it somewhere in life. You just have to tell them that instead of telling them the opposite. Like I said this quote basically relates to everyone.
I agree with nick because what he said was right and i agreed with it. He justified what the quote means to him. Also nick gave examples of why he didn't of the quote. He said how it can be used in life. To add on he said how its important to life and how it can make you better
Delete“Everyone is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree it will live its whole life believing it is stupid.” This quote by Albert Einstein Means to me that when everyone is judged by the same thing many people feel stupid. In other words If everyone is being evaluated on only math or any subject some people might not be good at that one subject. This will cause them to do not as well as the people who like the subject and they will think they are stupid. Everyone should be evaluated on as many things Also people should not be judged by only one thing. If someone is bad at soccer does not mean they are bad at all sports. Like Albert Einstein said a fish cant climb a tree, It is physically incapable. The same thing applies for people. Some people are bad at science for instance. If thy are constantly judged by their classmates and teacher for doing bad they are going to believe they are stupid. Everyone is smart in their own way. Maybe you are really good at writing or really good at math. You are a genius in that subject. That is what you are good at. I believe everyone is good at something and everyone had a natural talent. For me the talent is music. That is were I am a “genius”. I have always been good at music and playing interments. I was never very good at math and hat is were I struggle the most in school. I try not to let others discourage me but sometimes I get slightly annoyed or upset when I am constantly ridiculed for not being good at something. All in all everyone has something they are good at. Whether it be math or baseball everyone has something to be proud of.
ReplyDeleteAlbert Einstein once said, “Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.” To me this quote means, don't judge someone by their incapability of doing a task. No matter what someone does to show that they're not as good at something as the rest of you are, that person has to be good at something else. This quote makes me think a lot about school. And how if you get something wrong in Algebra for example, its obvious your classmates are either going to laugh. Or you’ll just feel completely embarrassed. Its happened to me so many times, but I’ll get to that later. Say you are bad at a sport, and embarrass yourself every single time you try to do that sport. And eventually people start to make fun of you for being incapable of doing that sport that they can do. After awhile, being told you can not do anything right based on one thing you can not do, you start to believe the things they say. Like how you are dumb, stupid, not capable of doing anything, etc. It really gets to you.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to this quote so much. And most of it began when I came to the high school! I still get lost getting from class to class till this day. And I do not even care how dumb and stupid I sound by saying that. I get lost. My friends do not even help me anymore if I get lost. They just call me stupid and walk away. Honestly, it is the worst feeling in the world. And believe it or not, after a long time of being called stupid, dumb, etc. I started to believe it. I would tell myself that I could not do anything because I could not go a day without getting just a little bit lost or confused going from class to class.
Albert Einstein once said, ”Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.” I think Albert is trying to say in this quote is that you can’t judge someone by their ability to do something they’re not best at. We all have abilities and talents and we don’t have the same exact talents because we are all different and creative in our own way which makes us all geniuses. Our ability to do something determines whether its our talent or not but that doesn’t mean you judge someone according to their ability. I personally think that this quote is telling us not to judge someone’s abilities. So nobody has the right to judge anyone’s ability to do something they’re not best at because abilities tell us what our talents are. Like I said we don’t always have the same talent as someone else, its possible but it’s not possible to have all our talents the same as someone else’s.
ReplyDeleteAn example from my life is when I was called stupid in math class. We were assigned to do a PowerPoint in that class and I was doing all the work in my group of five people including me. On the day it was due, we had to present our PowerPoint and I didn’t save it right because I don’t understand how to use the programs on the computers, I’m not good with computers at all. Some in my group said I was so stupid a bunch of times. On that day though, our missing PowerPoint was found somehow by a girl in the group. I still don’t get how she found it since it wasn’t on the drive anywhere but I guess some people are just cooperative with computers. Everyday I would think I was literally stupid because I felt like I was being talked about by other students in a bad way. I felt like I was stupid for a long time, but to this day I know who I am in God’s eyes and in his eyes I’m not stupid even if someone told me I was a million times. I personally think that even when we know someone is not good at a particular thing, we have to think before we speak because what we say about others affects them in a positive or negative way. So this is what I think about what Albert Einstein is saying and an example of this quote from my life.
Albert Einstein once said,"Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.” This quote means a lot, and can relate to a lot of people. A fish can’t climb a tree. This relates to someone who can’t do something. If someone can’t throw a ball in gym, doesn't mean you have to judge them. If they aren't good at something that you are good at, doesn't mean they aren't good at anything. They probably are better at something than you. If you keep saying “you are so bad at this” they are never going to learn, they are just going to want to give up. Bullying starts here. Calling them names one day. And keep going everyday, they will always think of themselves of that name. You call someone stupid, they will always think of themselves as stupid. If you judge someone by the way they do something, you shouldn't call them stupid. They should be calling you stupid. Judging people because they can’t do something is never right. This happens a lot in school, because someone doesn't know an answer, people have to laugh. That person will not want to learn anymore, and will just be embarrassed.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to this quote a lot. Some kids come to a baseball camp and it looks like they never played baseball before. They miss every ground ball hit to them. People start to make fun of them. People making fun of them isn't going to help. That person wants to get better at baseball and you're just putting them down even more. They aren't going to want to come back and tryout for their school team. Everyone gets judged on everything they do.
Albert Einstein once said, “Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.”I think means many different things in many different forms. What this means is simple. If you judge someone by their ability to do something, they will most likely believe that they are not as good as someone else who can. For example, tons of kids getting bullied for many different things. But this can be a part or form of bullying. A kid may not be good at football or baseball and get picked on for not doing as well as others. Thats why Albert Einstein is trying to explain and or express in this quote. I think many people can go by this quote. It will inspire many people to try harder and succeed. People can use this in an everyday and any day lifestyle. The fact that this quote is still being used today shows so much!
ReplyDeleteThis quote relates to myself in a lot of ways as it does others. I used to be able to not do many things with softball when i was little. I was less advanced than my fellow teammates. When i realized that i started pushing myself harder and harder each day. When i got MVP’s every tournament i knew i was proving myself my teammates and my coaches that i was working much harder.Even though i never heard this quote, this quote has been following me my whole life. I have succeed with this quote and look where i am today. I have practice everyday and im already getting scouted in my freshman year of high school. This quote is relatable to anybody as much as myself. i hope everyone would follow it sooner or later in their life time.
I like how you include it to your life and everybody else's. And how you wanna push yourself. You wanna show everybody and you can.
Delete"Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.” This quote by Albert Einstein is a great quote it is saying you cant judge somebody on something they dont know or do. Because everybody is good at something or familiar. Like in my life I switched from a private school I went their sine pre-k with the same kids the same school just a different grade. I knew all about private school but when i transferred it was hard it still is. One other example is my dad he is a Lawyer he does criminal and my mom is also a lawyer and she does real-estate they might be in the same field but thats totally different. Like if they switched they would lost. But this quote gives many reasons from dont waste your life on something you dont wanna do and dont judge other people on their ability cause they could surprise you.
ReplyDelete"Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.” This quote by Albert Einstein has such a deep meaning to it. To me, the quote means that everyone has at least one thing they are good at. Some people have more ability to do something better than others. Many people that are not as good as another person tend to give up but I think the challenge should motivate you even more.
ReplyDeleteAs many other people can, this quote relates to my life well. I am a very adventurous person. I love the thrill of trying new things and getting into the motion of getting used to it. So, being the daring person I am i tried a new sport. That sport was swimming. I’ve always wanted to be a swimmer so I went for it. Although I joined late, it did not stop me. I wanted to be a swimmer. When I got to my first practice, I met everyone on the team. I also met a girl I recognized from my history class. She was a short, soft spoken, and shy girl. She was the last person I would have thought to join any sport, especially swimming. When we all got into our lane, I watched her take off. She was incredible! When it was my turn to start. I was feeling extremely nervous. “What if I’m not as good as any of the other girls?” I thought. Many doubting thoughts came over me. I finally went for it, showing some major room for improvement. I was very overwhelmed. I kept thinking that although I’m new, I’m terrible at the sport. But as weeks went on, I was getting better. I learned that just because girls are better than me doesn’t mean I’m not good at the sport. Because I did have potential. I had such confident in it that i”m happy to say I’ll be on the team next year, and many to come.
