Ralph Waldo Emerson once said "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."

*That do you think this quote means?

  1. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said "Do not follow where the path may lead.Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." What I think that this quote means is that instead of following a trail that has already been made make a new one. This is so then those who go down your trail they discover something new. This could be like a triple rainbow,or something else. This quote relates to an experience in my life because it reminds me of going through the woods with my friends sometimes in the summer. What I also think that quote may mean is that if there is a trail that leads you into doing something bad don't take that way. Instead you should make a trail that leads you into doing something good in life. The last thing that this quote relates to my life is school. This is because I always take the same hallways to get to my classes. Though instead today I had gone a different way to all of my classes and it worked out well and had been a lot easier. To me this is what I think that Ralph Waldo Emerson's quote "Do not follow where the path may lead.Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail" means and how it is experienced to my life today.

    1. I especially like nick’s perspective of the quote. He put amazing details and thought into this. He said that the paths could be a bad path or good path. I agree with Nick fully on this, maybe even a bit more than mine. And I love how he related the quote to his life. I feel he absolutely nailed the meaning.

  2. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go where there is no path and leave a trail." I think this quote means that you have to make your own path because it is based off your life. No one in life is the same, so some may have more ups or downs than others. Making you own road can be very complicated or very simple. Life isn't about being Perfect it's about being different. We are always changing your minds. We start our own trail when we are born and end it when we die, either way we make it. Following a path already made is like walking in someone's shoes that you don't know. Trails are a piece of art that we make into the earth. I can relate to this quote because life is about making your own path and it involves falling and getting back up. it may take some time to find who i am but its my own journey and I get to choose how to live it. I don’t think I would like following someone else’s path because it is made for them not me. I am my own person and I have to make my own path because life isn’t always easy it can be tough but we all have to fight through it. All in all this quote means a lot to me because it is like a life lesson to learn from.

    1. In sandys writing about this quote I thought she really had vivid details. I thought she nailed her writing! It Was pure gold. Sandy really went into great detail about not following people and being yourself. I especially liked when she wrote I for one wouldn't want to be walking in peoples shoes. All in all I really enjoyed Sandys writing.

  3. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go where there is no path and leave a trail." I think this quote means that you have to make your own path in life. I mean you need to lead the way to things you need to be a leader in life. Not to be a follower and to go get what your chasing. This quote is perfection. I really enjoy reading and writing about it.Following a path already made is like walking in someone's shoes that you don't know. What I mean by this is you simply don't want to follow or do something the same way someone else does it. Also you don't want to copy off of people. I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't want to be like everyone else, I would want to be my own person and I would be proud of that. I also think that Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote this because he was trying to keep people away from following each other, as I would say I never liked the game follow the leader so I don't do it at all. In conclusion I think Ralph Waldo Emerson really did write a beautiful quote here and I really do believe that this quote affects many people in every day activities, Such as school, work, and Simply people in families. This is how I feel about this quote.

    1. I think Stephen did a very good job. I like when he explained walking in someone else's shoes. You do have to make your own path because it is only your life. Also I liked when he says he doesn't like the game follow the leader because he rather be the leader. All in all Stephen did a excellent job on his writing.

  4. Ralph Waldo once said “ Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail” i think this quote means to leave your own legacy. if you are leaving a lagacy then you will be starting something new for others. For example, when the greek city-state Athens created the government known as a democracy. They started something new and we still use it today. An example of this quote in life is when i walked a home from my bus stop a different way. i didn't know if it would take me more or less time but it as worth a try.when i got home i noticed i got home a little quicker than i do when i walk the home other way. Now i have a new, faster way to walk home. This is what i think when i here the quote “ Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where ther is no path and leave a trail” said by Ralph Waldo.

    1. krista made many good points. Leaving a trail to maybe one day make a legacy is a very true statement. I like how she made great examples. With the greek city Athens creating democracy. Maybe she could have out more examples of her personal life but other than that she made many good points and she stood on topic.

    2. I think krista made some very good points and had great examples. I liked how she talked about leaving your own legacy. It told me that she understood most of the topic. The only problem I had understanding was how she talked about walking home. The topic was about doing things everybody does in a different way. Like for example doing something like math in a different way like different methods for long division or multiplication.

  5. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." I think this quote means that you should be more of a leader instead of a follower. If you follow other people, then you won’t be able to experience things for yourself. You have to be able to try new things in life. If you don’t try new things, then you won’t know what you’re missing. You have to make a path of your own. You shouldn’t go down a path that someone has already made. You have to experience new things for yourself and not follow others as much as you would lead. Sometimes you have to take chances and make your own path through things. I can relate this to an experience in my own life. I try and do things on my own. I like to discover new things and not learn something because someone told me about it. I like to figure things out on my own. If I do that, I feel like I learned something in return. Figuring things out on your own can be tough. Sometimes it can even be confusing. It’s the only way you can learn though. You can’t always have someone teaching you. You have to learn it for yourself. This is a great quote by Emerson. I think a lot of people should follow it and lead their lives with it.

  6. Ralph Waldo once said,”Do not follow where the path may lead.Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”This quote is an independant quote. This quote means that don't take the easy path and don't follow someone or something.Choose your own path and don't let others choose it for you.You have to make a new path for others to follow.Go a different and harder path to challenge yourself. This quote relates to me and others a lot and in different ways. One way it relates to my life is in school.A while back i had a choice, study for the test the same way each and every time or to study a different way. At first i decided to do the same thing over and over again. But then i thought maybe i should just try different ways and tell people how to study this way. After studying the way i made up it worked and i got a hundred on my test. The next day i went to school and showed my friend, now this is the way i study because i didn't take the way the path lead. Also this quote relates to me when my friends were fighting. The trail i left behind led to success because i didn't take the path that would have led me to losing one have my friends. They fought over something silly but that wasn't the fact, the fact is that i told them to make up or lose each other and their trust.I usually would have sided with one have them but i took my own path and didn't let anyone get in my way to change my mind.Ronald Waldo once said,”Do not follow where the path may lead.Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail,” this quote is a meaningful one to always keep in mind.

  7. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go where there is no path and leave a trail." I think this quote means be a person who does something extra for the heck of it. Don’t just take the easy way out. It’s easier to do the easy things but why not do the harder things and challenge yourself to do something better than easy. For example, let’s say you have to get an essay done for school but you're to lazy to do it. So you just copy and paste someone else's off the computer and hand it in. Not only are you wrong for plagiarizing but you're being lazy and taking the easy way out instead of taking your time and writing that essay yourself. That can affect your grade and you can get lots of consequences for it. I can relate this quote to my life because, almost everyone follows that path that leads because its like an easy way out. And I used to take the easy way out of this like school work. I could give a 100% my best effort but I don’t always. Instead of going an extra mile in my work I just follow the path that may lead. I should make my own path and leave a trail . Meaning that, I should work harder and stay that way and set an example for others. So next time I will just push myself to work harder and not take the easy way out.

    1. I really like Elanas point when she said not to take the easy way out. she is 100% correct when she states that a challenge may help you do better. A challenge is not always a bad thing. This point really stood out to me and that's why I really liked elanas.

  8. Ralph Waldo once said ,“Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.". I think this quote is very special. I feel it’s about expressing your individuality, like how there is no one else out there in the world that is anywhere nere to how amazing of a person you are and can be. Like the quote says, the path leads somewhere, the path. A path is made from someone else making one. But, if you get to you destination where there is no path to follow, you leave a trail of inspiration behind. And if you make your own trail, people will be sure to follow you or your trail. They can follow in your footsteps, or make a path for themselves. It’s great to be an individual, for instance, me. There is no one in the world like me. No matter what I do, say, think, wear, hear, or look like, I am me. Even if someone plays the same sport as me, they can’t play it the way I play it. The point is all of the experiences that have happened in my life and all of my choices lead me to who I am today. And I, so far, like the person i'm coming to be. I still have a lot more experiences to experience and choices to choose, but I can tell that in the future, I think i'm going to have a pretty good life.

  9. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said "Do not follow where the path may lead.Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." I think this quote means to not follow others’ opportunities so start your own. I also another explanation is to just be yourself and don’t follow others guides. This quote can relate to myself and to everyone else. One way this quote can relate to me is if I am going to scooter I can either try the trick my friends are trying to do or I can just practice the trick I want to do. I don’t have to follow what my friends do so I am making a new path to follow. A way that everyone can relate to is if you are considering going to college, your friends might wanna go be a scientist and you don’t wanna be, then make a new path and do what you wanna do. Finally, one last example that can relate to some people is if you are in school and have to go across the school to get to your next class, then you will want to take a fast route. Even though you wanna talk to your friends, take a different way to class if you wanna be on time. As you can see, Ralph Emerson’s quote can really help and relate to us in our everyday lives. Hopefully everyone can take his words and use them later on in life.

  11. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."what this quote means to me is that you shouldn't take the same road everyone else already takes. Make your own paths in your own life. But inspire other people to do as you did. For instance everyone takes a test they all fail except you. They want to know how You say you studied. You just strayed from the path. Your higher grade should motivate other people to study as well. You're leaving a trail for everyone to go to instead of the old way.
A way i can relate this quote to my life is by using sports. In any sport you must practice and practice to get things correct. If you don't practice your not good. Well one year i was on a baseball team, and we were bad. We lost almost every game We were 0 and 10 with ten games left. The team just gave up. Until we collectively said no more. We strayed from the giving up and losing attitude we were supposed to have and instead pulled it together. We finished the season 9-11 that year. All because we veered from the beaten path and made our own way. This to me is what this Ralph Waldo Emerson meant when he said"Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."

    1. I really love on how Eric had described this quote. Also on how he had related it to a/n experience in his life like on how he had talked about baseball and him not practicing and not practicing. And on how then the team then just would have gave up. This is what I think about Eric's amazing meaning to this quote and how he had related it to himself and others too.

  12. The quote "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." by Ralph Waldo Emerson is a genius quote. I think the quote means you don't always have to do certain things to become lets say successful. Instead you can create your own example and become something great. Many people think in todays society the right path is having a pretty face and becoming a model. Or working in the Hollywood business is the only way to a successful life. That's not true. You can do whatever makes you happy. The so called "right path" isn't always right for you. Make your own trail. If painting makes you happy makes you happy. A lot of people in my life and even around me think going to college and becoming a doctor is the best job for me. I love to draw. I want to create a statement for artists everywhere. I want them to be as recognized as celebrities and doctors are. That's why im going to pursue my art carrier and hopefully make a legacy.

    1. i love how you gave the example of your drawing. you are right, most people say being doctors or lawyers are the best job for you. but really the best job for you is the one that you choose and wish to be. The quote "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." by Ralph Waldo Emerson is very inspiring. and the meaning of it that you said was very good and self expressing.

  13. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." What I think this quote means is that normally people try and take the easy way out of things and then they teach people the same way but instead of following in what everybody else does you should explore other ways to do something. An easy example for this could be found in mathematics. Lets say that William has 150 cookies and he wants to give his friend Eric one-fourth of them. Instead of doing some guess and check method you could just do 1/4 times 150/1 and divide. An example from my life, however would be when I was learning to play an instrument every note was in a type of order and the way everybody knew the scale was Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge but the way I learned it I kinda developed my self was Elephants Got Big Dirty Feet. Nobody else knew the system except for me which was kind of an advantage because it made me a better player to learn my own way instead of learning how everyone else learned I guess you could say I "made my own path." Another example of this is when I was learning to box. The vast majority of the other students fought with just brute force and quickly wore themselves out. I on the other hand had a kind of better way of fighting which was to let the opponent wear themselves out until they were all out of energy and then thats when you would strike. Normally you would try to throw them off balance by tripping them from behind. Any ways i'm getting off topic the point is I didn't follow what all the other students did and just kept going I actually made my own way of doing something. So go and try to do something in a more unique way and make your own path.

    1. I agree with Alex when he says that everyone always try to take the easy way out. "...you should explore other ways to do something." It's true. People should always try their own way of doing something instead of following everyone else. Everyone should be a leader and explore their own ways of doing something.

  14. "Do no follow where the path my lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." -Ralph Waldo. In my perspective, this quote means that instead of taking a common oppurtunity, try something different or start something interesting for others to try. Or maybe even, make your own choices rather than listening to others. Not everyone can go on the same path and make something of it. Therefore some people just follow through in there own way instead of another's. For an example, a lot of people say I should do my school work and studying in a way they are use to. I can only do it my way because I just can't do it in any other way for I am not just meant to take someone else's path. If you were to have a parent that was a lawyer and they wanted you to become one too but you do not like or can not grasp the topic, you are better off just going with what ever your heart desires.

    1. *Edit please add this pressed post accidentally* Also if you end up taking another path, it could result in making things more difficult for you. I for one am undecided on my future and I wonder now it will turn out. I am willing to wait and see what path I will make to offers to others. To sum it all up, do what you know what you are meant to do and do not listen to what other people say you should do unless you agree with them. It is always good to tailor your own story rather than have someone else write it for you, if you have someone else make your story then you won't know what is going to happen next or be able to stop anything that could happen to you at any moment.

  15. Ralph Waldo once said ,“Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.". I think this quote is very special and is very inspiring. What I think this quote means is that usually people try and take the easy way out of things.when then they end up teaching people the same way of shortcuts. people need to stop taking those shortcuts in life because one day a short cut won't be an option. you need to challenge your self or nobody else will. also you should not take the same road as everyone else. Make your own paths in your own life or nobody will because there is only one of you and nobody will do that job for you. This quote can relate to myself and to everyone else in a way as well. this quote relates to me by one day i was with a group of “friends” and they confronted me with asking why i talk to the girl that they do not like. i told them that i am friends with the girl and they said well choose. so i asked well what exactly am i choosing and they said it is her or us, you can not be friends with both of us. so i thought to myself if they were really my friends they would not make me choose. so most people would go with the more popular crowd but instead i went with the not so popular kids. i had chosen the path where most people would not take. i took risks i thought were better for me and i know that by like i said if they were really my friends they would not make me choose which ended up backfiring on their part.

  16. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." This is a very important quote. To me it means that you should make your own path wherever you go. You shouldn’t follow what everyone else does, you should try and form your own path and set your own role and make other people look up to you and be a leader. You shouldn’t want to be like everyone else, you should want to be just yourself. If you follow other people and what they do then you are not even living your own life, you are basically living in the shadow of someone. You should come out of that shadow and make your own. You should especially not follow in someone else’s path if they are not doing the right things, you want to make your own path and choose the best things for your life. Leaving your own trail also sets an example for other people to follow. Leaving your own trail is also the best thing for if you have a child, they have something to look up to and see how successful you were. I never would follow in someone elses path, its pointless and boring. I would rather make my own path and see what awaits ahead and possibly have an even better life. I will make my own trail wherever I go.
