Ralph Waldo Emerson once said "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."
*That do you think this quote means?
*How does it relate to an experience in your own life?
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said,”Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” This quote means to me that don’t follow what everyone else does because they might be on the wrong path and so you’ll be just like them. Instead choose to be different and be the good example to everyone, that way people will consider you as one of their good role models. When you are a good role model to others, then people will remember you for something good, maybe they’ll even want to be like you. I think this quote means that you should be different by making a trail where there is no path, than following a path and doing the same thing everyone else would’ve done.
ReplyDeleteThis quote relates to an experience in my life when I was in middle school in seventh grade. That year in seventh grade I saw the cliques people made, I didn’t like it and I wasn’t interested to be in it. They’re all the same, I would think to myself. I wanted to be different so people look up to me. What’s the point if you’re going to following a path you know where it’s going to lead you. It’s not so interesting that way, just like it is if you don’t go out for what you’re not sure of where it will lead you to but you can leave a trail in faith. In middle school, I decided to go for the school’s play and I had to be in the background dancing, I saw this group of girls that were always together and never really including other girls in. So those quiet girls I saw or I guess the ones that weren’t much included, I decided to make friends with them so they could be much open with themselves. Turns out I made really good friends with them and this experience relates to the quote. I chose not to be like the rest of the cliques, I chose to be different and make a trail so people would see that I won’t judge them and I’ll be friends with them even when other people are excluding them out. This quote can relate to my experience when I was in middle school in the school play.
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said,”Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”
ReplyDeleteI think this quote means a couple different things. One of the meanings is to basically make you're own trail, that people who are still deciding what path they want to go down, will want to take. Let's say you have two different choices. You can either follow 85% of the school that tries to fit into the crowd. They try to go wear the cool clothes, hang out with cool people, things like that. Or you can be that 15% that tries to be totally different and "unique" or something. But I thinks this quote tells you that you can walk away from those paths and make your own. Which is to actually be yourself. I don't think that if you make your own path people are going to want to follow your path to be like you. They'd want to follow it to be who they are too.
This quote relates to me because I see things like that all the time. people think they only have limited paths to take. They think they have to either fit in with this group or that group. but they don't realize that they can just be themselves. maybe start just one giant group of people being themselves. This quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson is very meaningful and I think it should be known and followed by more people.
I agree with what Colette says. Basically more than half of some schools are huge crows of people that followed ideas of kids that they thought were cool. And if you aren't following them, you can at least know you're unique and different in your own ways. You don't have to be cool to make friends. Also, I like how she related it to her own life.
DeleteI with Collett completely. I agree with her because she made very valid points. Like when she mentioned about the clothe situation. It is true. I see it almost everyday here in school. As well as the cool kids go, I agree on that too.
DeleteRalph Waldo Emerson once said "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." I think what he means by this is to not follow every else but, be yourself. Leave your own trail. For example, just because everyone wears the same style clothes doesn't mean you have to. Wear your own style or whatever you're comfortable in. By this quote he could also mean, don't change your self because of other people. Be an individual. Going back to the clothes example, if you have a certain style, don't change it because everyone else is wearing something different, make your own path. Maybe, it will even catch on one day. Also, this quote could mean to make the right choices and be a role model to other people. Don’t give up on life and start making bad choices. Do the right thing, leave a trail for other people to follow. Especially, if you have younger siblings, they look up to you, and if you don't do the right thing they may not either because they watch you. So, try and do the right thing, even though it can be hard sometimes.
ReplyDeleteThis quote can relate to my life because in life in general, I try not to follow people. I try and be my self. I try not to let other people influence my choices, because sometimes it may lead you down the wrong path, and i would rather make a mistake and it be my choice rather than me making a mistake just because i Ty being influenced by other people. I would rather be an individual, like the quote is saying, and make my own path. So, this quote is very useful in my life.
I agree with your opinion on this quote. I think the clothes example you gave went well with the quote. I almost wrote the same thing as you about leaving a trail. Leaving a trail where there is no path means that others look up to you as a role model and an individual. Being a role model is when young or old people look up to you. I think that's what leaving a trail means like you said. I agree with all you have said about this quote!
DeleteRalph Emerson once said “Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." What I think this quote means is that be a leader not a follower. Find your own way of living and make others want to follow you. Its always good to lead not to follow. If you follow you will eventually become someone you’re not or someone you don’t wanna be. If you lead you will set an example for other people and plus, you will learn to do what you want to do not what others want you to do. To leave a trail is to leave an example behind for other people to follow. But leave a good example not a bad one.
ReplyDeleteThis relates to my life because I always wanted to be on the popular side of the school. I always want to be the popular guy and be in the popular group. But instead I learned that over the years, I don’t need to be popular. Nor do I need to get in trouble just to be popular. I chose my own path and I made friends who are not popular and those are true friends. Popular people always start drama and my friends don’t. It’s not worth being popular because all you do is fight and get hurt at the end of the day and learn who your true friends are the hard way. That’s what happens when you get into that popular crowd. I chose my own path and I’m happy I did because now I live my life the way I want to live it. Without the drama or fights.
I completely agree with Nick. He explains the quote perfectly. He also gives a great example that everyone at one time may go through. Now i truley understand what the quote means because i understand it so much better! Great Job Nick!
DeleteI agree with you nick! I like how you thoroughly explained the quote and how you related it to your life. I also agree with how your personal experience. But, in a couple years being "popular" and "fitting in" won't matter. All that's going to matter is how true you stayed to yourself.
DeleteRalph Waldo Emerson once said "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." I think quote means don’t be a follower, be a leader and make you own path to something. If you follow the path it may lead you to getting in trouble and you don't want that. Make a different decision don't follow the wrong people because that could affect you in the future. People will want to come down your path, if you make something from it. Taking yourself and not following the crowd. The crowd will not be successful, and you will be. Taking your own path could change your life around. Trying to fit in could be the wrong decision and you may want to take your own path down the road. For example just because one of the “popular” kids are doing it or wearing these clothes doesn't mean you have to go and buy them to fit in. Be yourself and don't try to change because of the people you want to impress.
ReplyDeleteThis can relate to my life because. I don't change the way i look because “all the cool kids are doing it”. I don't try to act cool in front of the popular kids. I try to act myself. I don't want to follow the crowd and smoke and drink. I will make my own path and be successful in life
I believe what Mitchell said is right and is a good way of words. I strongly believe that Mitchell choice of words describes the quote correctly. He did a good job of putting the quote in his own words. Also he described and gave details on why he said what he did. Mitch made his point clearly and his point is one hundred percent right
DeleteRalph Waldo Emerson once said " do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." Personally, I think this quote means to not follow the wrong crowd and to be a leader. I think this also means to have people follow you in a way, because others might do wrong things, and others will do things that they do to look cool or fit in. For example, there might be just an ordinary kid walking around, when a kid comes from behind and pushes him or something. If some people see him doing that, they would probably think, hey that guy is really cool, and do things that he does. Then those people might start a group of bullies, all because they want to be cool or fit in because of one single person. I think I have many life stories that are on the lines of having to do with this quote. This has never happened to me before, but lets say someone you know is smoking, and they repeatedly ask you to smoke with them or he will just not be friends with you anymore. In this kind of problem, you should just say no to it and follow the right crowd. Just one cigarette can damage your body and you don’t even know it. If you would do it, you could seriously get addicted and you follow the completely wrong crowd. This is just one topic having to do with joining the wrong crowd. There are probably 100 more that could be talked about.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I liked what you said about the quote. You said not to follow the wrong crowd and be a leader. I also liked your example. That can happen to anyone, but we have to know to make the right choice.
DeleteRalph Waldo Emerson once said "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." To me this quote means that you should make your own decisions instead of following the paths of others. When you make your own decisions, the possibilities are endless. It is like discovering something new. You never know what you will find in life. But, if you follow someone else’s path, you might be making the wrong decision along side them. You can’t let others drag you down. you need to be able to make up your own mind and do your own thing. When you can do that, You can finally make a new path. You’ll learn right from wrong. One day, you can look back on your past and know that you made all of the right choices.
ReplyDeleteTo me this can relate a lot to things that happen in my life. In high school , Peer-pressure is a huge issue. It seems that the world around you is following one decision that someone happened to make. Pop trends and what seems to be in takes over the minds of the youth and for some reason, they can’t seem to surpass the hypnosis and see that the choices they’re making are not only idiotic but outrageous and ridiculous. It seems that no one can make up their own minds anymore. It’s hard to be able to make your own decisions when everyone around you is doing the opposite. But, sometimes the wrong thing to do is the most popular. That’s why you have to make your own decisions.
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." This quote can mean many things when interpreted by different people. I think this means to be your own leader. You should never do something just because its the popular choice. You should always present yourself with new challenges and different obstacles. You as a person should focus on being an individual and not what people want you to be. Always do something new and make it something worth remembering. As you make that new path, there will be others that follow your path. Creating your own path is part of leadership and that builds good character.
ReplyDeleteThis quote relates to my life in a very important way. This is something that my grandfather always told me. He was someone who believed in every dream i had. He would tell me, that i could achieve anything that i wanted, as long as i lead my own way. This is something i remind myself of all the time. If i can lead my own way,i will earn other peoples trust, and respect. Even though my grandpa is gone, my dad reminds me of this all the time. I want to achieve all of my dreams, therefore i need to create my own path. There are many things i want to be remembered for and i want others to follow my path in doing so.
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” This quote means more than you think it would. This quote means don’t follow others, but lead in example. This means don’t follow someone just because they may be more popular or “cooler” than you, but lead by your own choices. In other words, don’t be a follower, be a leader. Lead your own path to success, don’t follow others footsteps. Sometimes in life it is hard to make your own decisions, but in the end, you will have no regret. Meaning if you follow in someone else's footsteps and screw up, you will be more mad than messing up on your own. All in all in the end, you will know that you did it for you.
ReplyDeleteThis quote plays a huge role in your life whether you know it or not. I know it plays a huge role in my life. The role it plays is not to be a follower. To be myself, an individual. Not to do things to try and be “cool”, but to do things because in the long run it will make me happy. I will not have regrets on stupid things others may do around me, because I will lead by my own example and not do it. Everyone should really take the time to realize what this quote truly mean, and make their own paths.
What I think this quote means is that dont follow your someone elses path instead make your own. In other words be a leader and not a follower, in life you dont follow what other people say or do, be your own person. To succees you have to make your own path for someone important to notice you. If you copy someone did already you want look good as they did. It makes you look like you cant do things on your own and that you cant do things independently. Many colleges look for people who stand out in what they do and have the ability to think for themselves. But in life everyone needs help because humans arent perfect and they need guidance every once and awhile. For us to come a perfect cicity we have to make minor mistakes to improve. Without making a certain mistake we wont learn from it. To add on, you have to be independent because when you get older you cant depend on your on parents forever. You have to learn how to do things on your own. If you ever get married your family is going to need you and if you cant help because you werent independent then you arent made for that life. You have to start evolving now to be a better person when you grow up. When your parents are gone what are you going to do when you dont a skill set or any experience in any work athecs. When you are at your job you need to learn how to adapt to your environment and the way your attitude must be. If you are lazy and sit around all day they arent going to hire you. And to be hired you need to show them you are ready to work and you will do anything you can to prove yourself. To some up everything , you must be a leader and not a follower because noone wants to be around that kid that follows you everywhere you go.
ReplyDeleteRalph Waldo Emerson once said "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." What i think this quote means is, instead of following somebody, you should just be yourself. Being yourself will get yu many places in life. You shouldn't pretend to be somebody you're not. When you get older and want to have a good job you want to make sure you're somebody who is trustworthy and true, not somebody that says there somebody who they are not. This is a great quote to go by from Ralph Waldo Emerson.
ReplyDeleteI can relate this quote in many ways. For example, if i wanted to do really good in school i wouldn't plagerise somebody else’s work. I would want it to be mine, because what if i got the best grade in the class and got a reward for it? It wouldnt be fair to all my fellow students who worked really hard on it. Another example that this could relate to myself is with sports. If i want to do softball i college i can't cheat by doing steroids or anything! i have to make my way on the team. Making myself my own path, as Ralph Waldo Emerson said in his inspirational quote.
This quote can relate to so many people, and it should have great effect on people, like it did for me. Knowing this quote now makes me realize i have been using this quote most of my life. I will definitely keep this quote with me the rest of my life.
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." In my opinion, this quote means to be a leader. Never a follower. In life, it's good to be a leader so you could make your own decisions based on your knowledge rather than following someone just because everyone else is. I personally think in a couple years it won't matter if you made decisions to "fit in". What will really matter is how far you're getting in life. People often try to fit in and usually don't succeed. Yet, the people that go their separate ways do succeed. This quote by Emerson is definitely one to live by.
ReplyDeleteThis quote relates to so many experiences of mine. When I was in sixth grade my class got assigned a poster project for science. There was a group of girls in the class that I often worked with. They decided they wanted to all work together. At the time I wasn't doing the best in school so I was determined to get a good grade on this project. Part of the reason why I wasn't doing good in school was because whenever I worked with these girls we never got our work done. So, I did what was best for me. I told the girls that I wanted to work independently. After all of my hard work I finally handed my project in. When it came time that it was being graded, I got the highest grade in the class! Meanwhile, the girls still hadn't even started working on their project. Like Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Do not follow where the path may lead. Go INSTEAD where there is no path and leave a trail."
Its basically be your own person dont follow lead be who you are not somebody your not its better to follow in your dreams in your path to do what you wanna do for you nobody else even your standards could be high or low make them the highest that they can be for you do. Even though you under think your self dont make a goal to succeseced and base all your things off that people have under thought me and I over came them and thats all that matters
ReplyDeleteA very wise man by the name of Ralph Waldo Emerson once said “Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail”. What I think this means is take a route no one has went. Instead of following people, be a leader. Make an effort to try something different and make it count. People will expect you to be a follower, but instead be a leader. Much more will come from live when you make what you want to do with your life. When you become a leader people will notice that and think much more of you.
ReplyDeleteAn example of my life when this has happened was I went to my friends house one time to hangout. He decided to have a party, and a lot of people came. Some people brought drugs, they ask me to try them. I told them no, and walked away. They might as seen me as an “uncool” person. But I didn't get peer pressured into something I didn't want to do. I instead stood up for what I believed and took a stand. People notice that and some of them praised me for it, others said hurtful things. But those are the people who I don't want to be friends with. Thats a time in my life where that saying applied and I took a stand and said no.
I agree with you on what you said and how you stand up for your self and take up for what you think about.
