Period 6/7 Welcome Blog 1

Hi! Welcome to blogger :)  You will be responding to one topic a week that I post. Your post should be  at least 200 words to start off with (they will eventually get longer but we'll start small) due Thursday by 11:59 pm and you will be responsible for responding (respectfully) to one of your classmates entries by Sunday at 11:59 pm.  I will only post topics that I think will be easy for you to respond to until we get used to this. What I need you to do today is to comment on this post so that I know you can all access it.  Today's question is...

What do you think about social media (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)? Does it sometimes infringe on our privacy without our knowledge? How does social media benefit us?  Has social media changed the way we communicate? If yes, is it for the better or worse?

  2. Social Media is a wonderful thing when used correctly. Social media can be one of the best ways to contact friends and family if you don't have a phone or any other ways to contact them. Many people use social media to talk to their friends, some people use it to bully. Bullying people on social media is what makes everyone think social media is a bad idea. Some kids don't realize that its easier to get caught with messages on facebook and twitter than with texting. Most kids get caught with the timestamps on facebook messaging, with texting, many kids delete their messages daily making it harder for evidence to be found. Social media is known to change privacy setting on accounts without asking. Its caused many lawsuits because of it. Also social media has made it harder for kids to communicate out of the internet. Everyone is always on their phones during conversations. So I would say that it’s for the worse. This generation will have a harder time being social than any other generation because you don't have to be with someone to talk to them like you had to in earlier years. So Social Media sites like Facebook,Twitter and Instagram have many benefits and negatives, I would say there are more negatives than positives though.

    1. I agree with everything you are applying Josh. I agree mostly because kids don't realize that it IS easier to get caught on Facebook/twitter/Instamatic, etc, than getting caught texting. I also agree that kids using social media aren't as good as communicating out of social media. But the awareness of cyber bullying has spread alot. Therefore, cyber bullying is not as a high a standard as bullying in real life. I also agree that social media has many benefits, and negatives.

  3. I think that social media is a good thing. I think this because the friends we have today have a lot to do, with these social medias we all use. We are usually on our phones more than half the day, On one of these social apps such as face book, twitter, and instagram. I don't know what a lot of us would do with out it.
I don't think that it will infringe our privacy without our knowledge. when we create our accounts for these websites or apps, we all know the goods and bad things that can come from it. Most websites have a privacy setting for people that want to know who can be seeing what they post.
These most certainly changed the ways we communicate with people. Now a days people non-stop text and chat. when you see people out of the internet world you may not know what to say, and it could be awkward. when you text you have enough time to think about what to say to the other person. especially with someone that you don't know. you can talk smack online or say something you wouldn't say outside of the online world.

  4. I think that social media is an awesome thing but I also agree that it is bad. I would like to start off with the positives! To begin with it is a way to make new friends, and start something with someone over the internet. Also, if you have family members all around the U.S. or even out of the U.S its way you can keep in touch and see what they have been up to! For an example, some of my family live down south in North Carolina, they post pictures on Instagram and statuses on Facebook! It is pretty sweet that I can see that and keep up with my Grammie and Pop-Pop down in NC!
Now on to the negative, witch I can think of a few. People get bullied everyday on social media websites, and bulling can lead to people doing terrible stuff to themselves! While on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, ext. everything you do on there can be public and permanent. So anything that you do post on anything it is basically forever! It is also very dangerous!
I do think it benefits us to search all kinds of things on the internet. It helps us learn new things and to communicate with everyone else! But now that we do have social media anyone can say anything to anyone and then when they are face to face get shy. People act way more different in person then in texts! This is how I think social media effects the way people communicate with one another!

    1. I think that this is an amazing response to social media. how you feel about this is 100% true in real life, everyone should feel this way. so many people get bullied on the internet and can force them to hurt themselves. if I had to grade this it would be a 100%. this is an amazing response.

  5. Social media is an amazing thing but it can also be a terrible thing. One positive thing about social media is that you can make new friends! Another positive thing about social media is that you can stay in touch and keep up with your friends. There are many good things about social media. If you’re very talented at something and you post a video or picture of what you did on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Youtube or any other site, you can become famous. But, with positives come negatives. There are severe cases of cyber bullying all over social media sites. Some people kill themselves because they’re bullied so much. Social media sites don’t make it any better. Other people use it to brag and boast about doing illegal things and may get in trouble by the cops. Overall, social media sites can be pretty good.
Social media has definitely changed our way of communicating. It also does infringe on our privacy. Some people may think that the government track everything we do on these sites. I agree with that. You never know if they are or not. It benefits us because we can communicate with people without actually being with them. Social media is one of the best things ever invented.

  6. In my own opinion I think that social media like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc is great but can also be bad. It can be good by talking to friends you never get to see or just wasting your time watching videos or just doing whatever you like doing on those websites! The only reason why its bad is cause its so much easier to start a fight on a social media than it is in person! When your on Twitter or Facebook its a lot easier to start a fight with anyone cause you don't think of the consequences that you would have if you started it face to face. Bulling is really common on big social media sites, and should be a no!
Sometimes, I do think that people from across the world are looking at my profiles and like stalking me and I wouldn't even know about it! That's also why all social media sites have a thing where you can make yourself private so no one can look at your profile until you reply back that its okay to look on your account. To a certain point 1 think that it infringes your privacy but you could do things to make you account safe so no one looks on it.
Social media helps us out by letting us maybe talk to some of our friends that we don' have classes with or maybe some family members that you never get to see anymore. They become a big help when it comes down to that kind of stuff! I think that social media have defiantly changed the way we all communicate it makes it better to get in touch with family, or family members that you haven't seen in a while it helps out a lot! The only downfall to having one is being scared of the risk of being bullied but most likely you should be good! Social media is a great thing for everyone!

    1. I also think Social Media can be good and bad. It’s easy to start a fight on social media like you said because it’s easier to type anything you want and it to be seen by anyone you want. It definitely allows people from anywhere to look at your profile and see anything they want which is scary. It is a big help on the communication side when it comes to friends from other classes and family from far away. It makes it faster and easier to keep in touch. I agree it’s a great thing for everyone and more people should try it!

  7. I think social media is beneficial for teenagers to use. It helps shy people come out of their shell by talking to people over the internet. I don't think social media infringes on your privacy. If you want privacy with something then don't put it on social media. That's why it has the word social in it, it's for everyone to see. Like I said earlier, social media helps shy people. But it also allows us to invite a lot of people to party or something like that without hand delivering an invitation. It also helps people who are self conscious about how they look when people like their pictures or compliment them. Another helpful thing about social media is that it makes it a lot easier to make friends. Social media definitely changed the way people communicate. It has made it possible to talk to people all over the world. Also, it made it way easier to share information with everyone. Unfortunately, it has also made it easier for people to bully others and get away with it. However, it has made communicating better, for the most part. Social media would be completely good if we can eliminate the factor of bullying from it completely.

  8. I feel it is a good thing because that's how some people socialize with your friends.i feel that it doesn't infringe on my privacy because all it asks you is to access your photos and basic information like instagram all you have to do is agree to let instagram access your photos. its not like it goes in automatically and post your photos or videos, you have to do that yourself.i feel that the social media benefits us because we can find out information that you didn't know that's one way it benefits us another is you can communicate with your friends.yes the social media has changed the way we communicate because instead of calling someone you can just text someone or email something to someone.i feel its better because its easier and if didn't know something you can go on the internet and look it up. Or you can text a friend or send them a message on Facebook or twitter or even instagram. Email also comes in handy because if you're at home and you're sick you can just email the teacher your homework. this is why i feel that the social media helps us and does not infringe on my privacy.

  9. Social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are huge aspects of some of today's youth's daily lives. But, what some people don’t know is that the way that all of your private data is saved and backed up to last forever online. Google saves all of your searches, Your facebook profile is usually displayed as public, (Same with twitter and Instagram), And the most important information can fall through loopholes into someone else’s hands. Although it has it’s faults, Social media is a huge benefit. Not only does it make contacting someone so much easier, but the fact that you can talk to someone with the click of a button is amazing! There are cons to this though. Even though it helps us speak to people online, It could be taking away from our social activity in the real world. With a lack of social public experience, social anxiety can become an issue. Another key fact is that you never know who you’re meeting behind the screen. So yes, Social media has changed the way we communicate forever. Social media has affected communication for the better, but people need to keep in mind how dangerous it can be to talk to strangers online.

  10. What I think of social media (such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) as mobile and easy to interact with family and friends via the internet. These social media sights on the internet let's us socialize with our closest friends and making it simple for us to do. But there's a bad side of this. These media sites can infringe on our privacy. What you write to a friend on any of these social media sites could maybe go viral. This could lead up to gossip, fights, and other social drama. So, be careful what you say or do on the internet. Cutting off the bad stuff, social media can benefit us. Social media can benefit us on finding new shortcuts to get to pages or blogs. It could also benefit the people who use social media on typing skills. From these advantages, the social media world has changed the way we communicate. The way we communicate on social media is good and bad. The good part about communicating in social media is that you can communicate with anyone you want. A good advantage of this is that if a family member or a friend is far away from home, you can “chat” with them on any social media website they are on. The bad part about it is that you could be involved in some serious drama. To conclude my thoughts, that is what I think about social media of today.

    1. I honestly don't agree with everything you said because I completely believe social media is bad. I do agree with every thing about what you said though. Especially the part about being in tons of drama because it is very true. All in all, your reply was quite a piece of work vinny.

  11. Social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instigram, etc.) plays a large part in many of our lives. I have mixed feelings about social media. It can bring people closer together, but yet break them apart. People use social media to contact with friends and family in an easier and faster way than email or text. It can also show people you know how you express yourself or who you are. Social media can also start fights and end friendships as well. When you type something, the reader doesn’t know the tone in your voice and it may offend them whether it’s a joke or not. When in real person, the audience knows how you were saying it. Also, social media can be used by criminals to see where you will be and at what time. That’s helpful to someone who wants to kidnap you or harm you. Also, people will always find a way to make fun of you for what you post, tweet, etc. Social media is used by almost everyone in the world. It has its ups and downs, but I would have to say that social media was a good idea. That is what I think of social media.

    1. Shawn, I completely agree to what you are saying about social media. I agree on what you said about social media bringing people together, but on the other bringing people apart. Many people just use these social media websites as just talking to people that you are close to. But some use it as a drama hot spot. So I fully agree on what you were trying to say about social media bringing people together but also bringing people apart in their friendships.

    2. shawn i totally agree with you because the social media does helps us in many ways it helps us communicate with our friends and helps us in other ways but thats the main one.and i also agree with you because why make an account for something if it doesnt have privacy settings

  12. I think social media such as facebook, twitter, and instagram are Important in many people’s lives. Almost everybody has an account of some type and uses it daily. I don’t think it infringes on our privacy unless someone were to accidentally post something personal about themselves which is very easy to do. Social media benefits us in all different ways. It helps us communicate with friends, family, and keeps us up to date with events happening around our community. In my opinion it helps us socialize more with our peers. Social media makes communicating faster and easier for all ages. Although facebook, twitter, and instagram are beneficial to us, they may also be detrimental. The Internet and social networks like these can be very harmful. Cyber bullying happens to people daily and can affect the way we feel and work in school. I think it’s important that if you have the choice to put your profile on private, you should. Popular social networks are full of fights and gossip. If you don’t want to risk being a part of any of these things I would recommend you don’t get facebook, twitter, or instgram unless your careful. There’s pros and cons to everything especially social networking.

  13. so what is stamce on social media, does it affect you in a positive or negative way? social media can really go both ways as in it can be good or bad for people. many teens use it to post whatever and that can be harmful. many teens post some inappropriate things for everyone to see. literally anyone in the world at any given time can see that post and that can ruin someone's life or reputation if seen by the wrong person. on facebook only there are over 1 billion accounts and 500 million active daily users. do you really want all of those people seeing that post? social media infringes on your privacy by having always monitoring what your doing on that site. you can't hide really anything on social media sites because of that. so they can know everything no matter how secretive it is. there are many benefits to social media too. its helps you communicate with people easier. it helps also by we can get updated on news so much faster than just watching TV. it makes it so much easier to communicate with people with social media like I said before, so yes its for the better not worse.

  14. Dr. Suess once said “Be who you are and say what you feel because those who matter don’t mind and those who mind don’t matter” The first thing that pops into my head when I read this quote is when I lost some friends because I didn’t keep in what I wanted to say. This quote can have SO many meanings, but the on meaning it has to me is: say what you want, and be true to you, and whoever cares about how you act, or what you say, don't matter to you. And you shouldn’t care what they think, you should just be true to you! This quote relates mainly to last year when I was in eighth grade. I had this big group of friends and everything was fine and happy until someone asked me a question. They asked me this when I first started hanging out with them, and now they decided to bring it back up. The first time they approached me with the question, I was very blunt and straight to the point. I hid what I actually wanted to say, in fear that they would judge me and stop hanging out with me. Then when I finally grew a backbone, I told them what I really wanted to say, and I stopped hiding who I am. After that, one by one they all dropped me as a friend, and I couldn't have been more relieved. That experience was both sad, and taught me a really important message.. Don’t let others make you feel like you should pretend to be someone else, and say what you want to say, when you want to say!

  15. I believe that social media is a terrible thing. In fact i believe it should never exist. I mean that this is my opinion and i know that many people disagree with me but I hold strong on my decision. I believe there is too much drama that goes on on it. And i Do believe that it does infringe on our personal info and you could look it up. People don't know that that happens and they may never find out which is usually a real serious thing. Social media may help us in places like communicating with your friends or family when they don't have a cell phone or even just a house phone. But in most cases every 1 has a phone. Social media only changed the way we communicate because some sites you can post pictures (which could also be a very bad thing especially with youngsters). So i can't really answer the question if its bad or not because it leans on both sides making it equal. But honestly just use texting or calling a family member or friend because it also makes it so much easier. All in all, I really disagree with the fact that social media exists today.
